New Jersey, LI compete over company incentives
Here are details on 17 cases in which New Jersey, other states and China competed in recent years with Long Island for companies looking to expand or consolidate operations. In only one case did a company choose New Jersey over Long Island, but the incentives are adding up. The companies are listed in order of their project values, the amount of money the company will be spending on construction, equipment etc.
Estimates of property tax savings offered to companies were not available from the Nassau Industrial Development Agency. The jobs that are listed as created or retained are only those that resulted from the incentives offered. Some of the companies listed have surpassed the number of jobs they promised to create in return for government help, and the average wages listed were those paid at the time the company applied for aid. Data compiled by James T. Madore from the Empire State Development Corp. as well as from industrial development agencies in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the towns of Islip and Babylon.
