Local contributions in the presidential race

Donations in the presidential race can be made in several ways. Here are the contributions in 13 southern New York counties to four different committees for each major candidate: the presidential campaign fund, the national party committee, a joint fundraising committee between those two committees, and the main super PAC associated with each candidate.

For Barack Obama, those are: Obama for America, Democratic National Committee, Obama Victory Fund and Priorities USA.

For Mitt Romney, they are: Romney for President, Republican National Committee, Romney Victory and Restore Our Future.

The joint fundraising committee is a joint effort by the presidential fund and the national party to hold events to raise money. A donor can give a maximum amount of $70,800. Out of that amount, $5,000 goes to the presidential campaign fund and most of the rest goes to the national party, though some might go to state party committees. The joint fundraising committee also keeps some to pay its fundraising bills.
