Long Island proposals in wake of Sandy

Here are 51 of the applications from Nassau and Suffolk for funding to improve the Island's infrastructure under FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The proposals are from the counties only and do not include proposals by municipalities or other groups. The state has received 686 letters from Long Island seeking aid. Formal applications are due by Oct. 30.

Suffolk: Public Works CP 8710, Northeast Branch Nissequogue River Restoration Project, from the vicinity of Clearbrook Drive Implementation of stormwater management measures, including streambed restoration and silt removal, culvert removal and installation of greater capacity culvert at lowered elevation, and upland stormwater improvements to reduce flow of sediment to waterway. $2,000,000

Suffolk: Police Radio Tower Infrastructure Retrofit Project will reduce risk of wind damage by bringing towers into compliance with current Telecommunications Industry Association wind standard. $1,000,000

Suffolk: Public Works Drainage Improvements to County Road 52 Reconstruction of the existing drainage system/swale located in the center median. $950,000
Suffolk: Public Works SC Sewer Dist No. 3 - Southwest - Electrical Substation A flood wall will be installed around an electrical substation to eliminate the storm hazard at elevations above that experienced with Storm Sandy. $750,000
Suffolk: Public Works SC Sewer Dis No. 3 - Southwest - Pumping Stations 9 & 10 Flood wall/gates will be installed; openings in the pumping station structures will be raised such that storm water will not be able to enter. Suffolk: Police Marine Bureau Fuel Supply Protection Project Retrofit diesel and gasoline fuel pumps to protect them from water damage. Pumps, which are at ground level, could be raised or a flood barrier could be installed to protect them from being damaged by floodwaters. $200,000
Suffolk: Police Perm Generator Installation- Pol Acad Emergency Work Shelter Stand alone permanently installed generator to provide electricity to critical facility used by the Police Department to shelter employees and house command and control functions for disasters. $200,000
