Background:

Rice began her career as a prosecutor with the Brooklyn district attorney's office in 1992. She became an assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice's Philadelphia office in 1999. In 2005, she became the first woman elected to be Nassau district attorney. She is running to replace U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, who announced early in 2014 that she would not seek re-election, in Congress.
