Background:

Anker, of Mount Sinai, has served in the legislature since winning a special election in March 2011. Before her election to the county legislature, Anker was a Mount Sinai school board member for four years and a board member of the Mount Sinai Civic Association. She also had her own public relations firm, once worked for Eastern Suffolk BOCES and was director of Brookhaven Office of Energy and Sustainability.

Questions:

Do you support legalizing the use of medical marijuana in New York?

Yes

Should chronically ill children and teens be able to use medical marijuana with parental and doctor approval?

Yes

Ways to consume marijuana include smoking it, using it as an oil, taking it as a capsule and eating it.

Should medical marijuana be available in a variety of forms to allow patients to choose the form they use?

No

Should medical marijuana be limited for chronically ill patients and distributed by a limited number of hospitals as proposed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo?

Yes

Do you support legalizing the recreational use of marijuana as has been done in Colorado and Washington?

No

Her comments:

1. Yes, but only if the delivery is strictly monitored and controlled.
2. Yes...But only after all approved treatments have been utilized and have consequently failed. Medical marijuana should be used only in cases of chronic illnesses.
3. No. Medical marijuana should only be administered based on maximum effectiveness and without unnecessary side effects. If there are a variety of forms available, there is a higher chance of abuse.
4. As long as the hospitals are closely regulated, I agree.
5. No. Absolutely not.
